Course Overview
A first stop for understanding crypto/web3 and it's future potential.
In Token, you will:

Master the basic understanding of web3 technology & its jargon. We'll cover private wallets, exchanges, minting, and staking with fun hands on examples. You'll also become fluent in crypto speak. DeFi, DAOs, proof-of-stake, AMMs, Gwei - we'll cover all of the social and technical terms you'll need to know.

Experiment with tools & strategies. You'll learn how to mint your own NFT collection, dive into the world of DeFi, use decentralized applications, and how web3 creates an internet of personal ownership.

Learn the broader implications. We'll dive deep into crypto promises (and threats) for society, the economy, and the environment. We'll look at historical examples of where crypto has fallen short and it's common criticisms, but we'll also look at where it could go in the future.

No prior knowledge about crypto is required.
Why learn about crypto/web3?
From course instructor, Andy Page
One of the most important things that crypto/web3 offers to the world is the ability to make financial services a world public utility or even a basic human right - something that is available to all "citizens of the internet".

I think a lot of US citizens don't realize how privileged we are to live in a country where we have access to safe and secure bank accounts, we have access to student loans, we can take out a mortgage, and (generally) we have faith in our government and banks that those products and services are safe and can be trusted. Not everyone is in the same boat.

Crypto allows anyone with internet connection to have access to decentralized financial services. They can create a savings account, they can take out a loan, they can exchange assets, buy insurance, non-US citizens can own assets that reflect the price of US stocks, etc. With crypto/web3, all of this is possible without the need of any government or centralized banks.

Andy Page
Token is the only Forge course led by a member of Forge's full-time leadership team. Andy serves as Forge's Executive Director and is a UVA alum who helped get Forge off the ground back in 2014.

Before becoming Executive Director, Andy was a student at Forge who learned and taught alongside his peers. Starting in August 2014, Andy participated in his first skills course before taking on roles at Forge in public events, in Launch, and as a student director. He joined the full-time team after graduation as Head of Partnerships before becoming COO and then Executive Director.

As a cyptro education, Andy has led multiple workshops teaching bankers and current financial intuitions about the future potential of crypto. He is also a contributing member of multiple DAOs and creates educational content on subjects within DeFi.
